Does Instagram & YouTube Suppress Sex Education Content?

Here's what I've learned in the last 5 years...

It’s been 10 days since YouTube demonetized my channel without any warning. YouTube didn’t remove my content (because it didn’t actually violate any community guidelines) but instead removed my ability to earn income from YouTube Ads.

(Basically, YouTube creators spend a lot of time trying to get “monetized” which means creating content designed to grow a following that supports their videos. And eventually, once they reach specific criteria, they can apply to be a part of the YouTube Partner Program which then allows the creator to earn income off of the advertisements shown before & during their videos.)

I was gutted - totally unable to focus on anything except for searching for information to understand why this had happened! The only thing YouTube said about my demonetization was this:

Screenshot of the notice from YouTube stating I was no longer earning income from my videos.

Because of the type of content I make, I was extremely particular about abiding by the community guidelines as well as the monetization policies. So when YouTube sent me this notice, I was shocked that they thought my “talking-head” style of videos were sexually-gratifying. (TBH, I think my work is gratifying but it’s not sexually-gratifying in any way!)
